In this paper, numerical and experimental investigation on low velocity impact response of aluminum
reinforced epoxy (GLARE) plates is carried out with different impact energy. Continuum damage mechanics is used in
the simulation of impacts onto the GLARE plates. Lemaitre’s and Barbero’s models are used for the simulation of the
metal and composite materials, respectively. Damage codes for metal and composite are written in Vumat subroutine
which is linked to ABAQUS FE code. Comparing numerical and experimental results, a good agreement is obtained for
force and displacement histories. By increasing impact energy, the maximum contact force increases and the contact
time decreases.
