A new and simple test configuration called the Edge Notched Disc Bend (ENDB) is proposed in this research for determining mixed mode I/III fracture toughness of asphalt materials. The specimen is able to introduce complete range of mode mixities from pure mode I to pure mode III. The practical ability of the suggested ENDB specimen was examined for obtaining the KIc and KIIIc fracture toughness values for typical hot mix asphalt (HMA) composite for three mode I/III mixities. It was shown that the pure mode III or mixed mode I/III fracture toughness values are lesser than the pure mode I fracture toughness (KIc) of tested asphalt mixture showing its lower cracking resistance against out of plane sliding deformations
