In this research, the effect of 100 and 500 KGy doses of electron beam irradiation on mechanical safety functions of nanocomposite neutron shields of nuclear spent fuel casks have been studied. Nanocomposite shields were prepared by shear mixing method. The dispersion of the nanoparticles in the polymeric matrix is characterized by X-ray Diffractometer and Scanning Electron Microscopy analyses. Mechanical properties of nanocomposites are characterized by using tensile test. Test results showed improvement in tensile strength and young’s modulus of nanocomposite after exposure of electron beam.
