A curriculum in education, mostly refers to arranged instructions or to behold of experiences of the students that are related to the instructional goals of educators or schools. These instructions are mostly the textbooks, and they play a major role in curriculum. So in order to have better curriculum, textbooks need to be evaluated. The current study evaluated the English textbooks that are being taught in private institutions. The selected textbooks were Touchstone and Top Notch series. This research evaluated the books before the implementation in private institutions, evaluation before implementation was done by needs analysis of learners. All of the evaluation criteria was developed by the researchers. According to the needs analysis of the learners it appeared that learners’ priority in learning English are speaking skill and communication. But the textbooks focus mostly on the grammar, which is the least preference of the learners and vocabulary and speaking. Then the result of the study was that selected textbooks not meeting the needs of the Iranian private institute learners, and suggests that the institutions in order to have better result in teaching, they need to change textbooks or add some materials that focus more on speaking skill.
