In this article the writers propose a five stage method for teaching Discourse Markers (DMs) to Iranian EFL learners and finally reports the results.The result of the present study shows that, in contrast to the common approaches to teaching DMs to EFL learners, if a systematic approach is taken to introduce DMs to EFL learners and to teach them how to use these cohesive devices, the EFL learners might do better at learning and applying DMs in their writings and consequently their renderings might reach a higher level of quality. A specific attention is paid to raising awareness towards the meaning and usage of DMs in this approach which requires the attention of the readers of this article. The result of the study showed that if particular attention is given to teaching and learning DMs in English language classes, EFL learners can produce more coherent texts.
