چكيده فارسي :
In Saul Bellow’s 1944 Dangling Man, Joseph, the “man” of the title is looking forward to hearing from army in order to step to the battlefront. He finds himself facing a year of idleness during this delay. He is clashed within the meaninglessness and doubts the very fact of simple existence. This diary-format story centers on Joseph’s philosophical thinking and his relationship with the family and friends. Saul Bellow’s Joseph is the best choice to be fit in this character because Bellow’s novels are novel of ideas dealing with intellectualism. The reader indirectly faces with series of “MY”s in Joseph’s mind, behavior and stating the events of the story. The presence of the first-person narrator often reveals lack of confidence in stating in which persuades the reader to see the events as the narrator defines not as they are. This study aimed to research how narrative patterns used by the author have led to unreliability and false depictions in the novel.
