Friction coefficient value is one of the key parameters in numerical modeling of metal forming processes. Fiction coefficient value between two parts changes by changing in experimental conditions such as temperature, contact speed and contact pressure. Recently developed material processing methods, known as severe plastic deformation methods, are conducting under low speed and very high contact pressures. The aim of this study is to offer a new apparatus with capability to measure friction coefficient value under these conditions. Experimental values of friction coefficient for deferent material pairs using suggested apparatus design will be offered. In addition, the change of friction coefficient values by changing in contact pressure will be discussed. The results show that a suggested apparatus design has a good capability to record friction coefficients at low speeds and contact pressures in order of several Giga Pascal. Furthermore, according to the results the friction coefficient is considerably changes with changing in contact pressure.
