The correct modeling and simulation of car seat components during the safety tests is essential for seat improvement process. There are different safety Standards which may be applied to automotive seats. These safety tests guarantee the proper function of the seat system and also ensures sufficient strength of all anchorage points. One of the severe safety tests is seat belt anchorage test. This test is done according ECE R14. According to this standard, loads are applied slowly and are sustained over a long period of time, so one can assume a quasi-static test. During these tests, high forces are applied to the seat belts over loading devices. Seat’s components and belt anchorages have to resist these loads without any damages. In this paper, using LS Dyna, a finite element model has been developed to simulate the loading condition. Then, the results of the FEM model have been verified by experimental tests. Finally, the validated model has been used to optimize car seat design in term of components’ thickness and strength.
