In the present research work, for the first time, the buckling behavior of basalt fiber reinforced epoxy composite beams under axial compression load is studied by experimental and numerical methods. The experimental procedure is carried out to find the force-displacement diagram and critical buckling load of basalt fiber reinforced epoxy composites made of vacuum infusion process. A numerical simulation by commercial finite element code ABAQUS is then used and the outputs are compared with the experimental results. A reasonable agreement was observed. Afterwards, the validated numerical method is employed to carry out a parametric study on the effect of geometries of the basalt fiber reinforced beam specimens. The linear buckling analysis is used to introduce imperfection in the geometry of the specimen at initiation of nonlinear buckling analysis. It is discovered that the length, width and thickness of the basalt fiber reinforced epoxy beams have considerable effects on buckling behavior and critical buckling load of basalt fiber composite beams.
