A Pragmatic Analysis of Impoliteness and Impoliteness Responses in the Movie Tabagheye Hassas

The objectives of this study were to describe the types of impoliteness strategies addressed to the main character, to explain the realizations of the impoliteness strategies addressed to the main character, and to describe the main character’s responses to the impoliteness strategies addressed to him in Tabagheye Hasas, directed by Kamal Tabrizi and starring Reza Attaran. The corpus was analyzed based on Culpepper’ (1996) model of impoliteness. A quantitative analysis of the movie demonstrated that bold on record impoliteness and negative impoliteness (condescending, scorning, and ridiculing) were the most frequently used type of impoliteness strategies in the corpus. Moreover, results display that accepting the face attack, countering the face attack, defensive countering, and opting out were the most frequently used strategies of impoliteness responses. The findings of this study is hoped to add insights into our knowledge of impoliteness and impoliteness responses.
