The importance of allusions in literary texts has been considered significant and has become the issue of research in language and translation studies. Certainly, translators will encounter some problems in translating literary texts due to the fact that allusions have particular connotations and implications in the source language (SL).The present study aimed to focus on the translation problems in relation to allusions. Furthermore, the main objective of this research lied in making a comparative account of allusions in James Joyce s Dubliners(1993) as against its Persian translation by Mohammad Ali Safarian(2009 ) in order to determine the translational behavior and the choice of strategies by translator to convey the various kind of allusions from English into Persian. The other issue discussed and underscored in this study was the role of background knowledge of ST allusions in their interpretation and translation .In order to analyze the translation of allusions, Ritva Leppihalme theory(1997) and her proposed strategies for translating allusions provided the theoretical framework for this study. The most significant contribution of this study was to offer a new model for translators, and also to make the prospective translators alert in their choice of strategies for a finer translation.
