Preparation and characterization of titanium loaded nano-ZSM-5 zeolite for environmental application

In this study, nano-sized ZSM-5 zeolite was synthesized successfully by hydrothermal method. Then, we loaded TiO2 into its structure by two techniques of during-synthesis and post-synthesis methods. We used two different sources of titanium for preparation of TiO2/ZSM-5 catalysts. The TiO2 to ZSM-5ratio were chosen as 10, 20 and 30 in weight percent. The synthesized materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET). The catalytic activities of TiO2/ZSM-5 were evaluated under the irradiation of UV-light for degradation ofmethylene blue. Our finding show that the photocatalytic activity of TiO2/ZSM-5 Preparedby using of tetraisopropylorthotitanate as source of TiO2 is better than titanium tetrachloride. The degradation efficiency of higher than 95% was achieved within 90 min for the catalyst prepared from tetraisopropylorthotitanate with ratio 20% through technique of during-synthesis (its ratio 30% is in progress). Experimental results demonstrated that TiO2/ZSM-5 photocatalytic reactions followed pseudo-first-order kinetics. Therefore, the synthesized TiO2/ZSM-5 could be used as a promising photocatalytic for fast degradation of pollution in wastewater.
