Due to the economic reasons, Knowing of energy consumption is important for Electrical Railway System (ERS) operation companies (operators). In order to decrease the energy consumption of electrical railway systems, it is possible to use energy regenerated by trains during deceleration time periods. Utilizing braking energy of trains will increase the energy efficiency of ERSs and also it might lead to decrease the size of equipment. The aim of this study is to investigate the amount of braking energy of the trains using actual data gained from measuring devices from line 1 of Tehran subway system.
