The present paper examines the floristic and ecological characteristics of algae in the international wetland of Kani Baraza n, NW Iran. The wetland, with more than 907 h ectares, is located 30 kilometers from city of Mahabad, west Azarbaijan, Iran. Algal samples were collected from different parts of the wetland in different seasons. Taxonomic composition was identified to lowest taxonomic level. The common species in the wetland were Oocystis sp., Merismopedia sp., Chrococus sp., Scenedesmus sp., Microcystis sp., Cosmarium sp., Chlorella sp., Oedogonium sp., and Ankistrodesmus sp. Furthermore, the samples were exposed to sunlight for ten days. Sub sequently, after ensuring the presence of algae in these aquatic samples, the cells were cultivated for about two weeks at 25 ° C and light intensity (80 μmol photon m-2 s-1) and photop eriod for 14 hours of light and 8 hours darkness. After this stage, the algae samples were observed under a microscope, and in the presence of impurities, solid culture was repeat ed to produce pure clones. In order to identify t he algae in the collected water samples, va lid authentication keys and the most recent related morphological papers were carefully used.
