THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF MEDICINE RECOMM ENDS THAT ADULTS SHOULD GET A MINIMUM OF 0.8 G OF PRO TEIN FOR EVERY KILOGRAM OF BODY WEIGHT PER DAY. SPIRULINA PLATENSIS IS ONE OF THE PHOTOS YNTHETIC CYANOBACTERIATHAT HAS BEEN USED IN VARIOU S STUDIES TO INVESTIGATE. THIS MICROALGA IS ONE OF THE P ROMISING MICROALGAE TO PRODUCE HIGH- VALUED CO MPOUNDS SUCH AS PROTEINS NUCLEIC ACIDS, LIPIDS, VITAM INS AND PIGMENTS WHICH ARE EXTENSIVELY USED IN FO OD, DRUG AND COSMETICS INDUSTRIES. SO THIS MICROALGAIS AN IDEAL FOOD WHICH CONTAINS 46-63 % PROTEINS, 8-14% CARBOHYDRATES AND 4-9% LIPIDS BASED ON ITS DRY WEIG HT.IN THE PRESENT STUDY, SPIRULINA PLATENSIS ASA BLUE- GREEN MICROALGA WHICH WAS CULTIVATED INZARROUK ME DIUM FOR 14 DAYS UNDER THE WHITE LED AND ITS PROT EIN CONTENTS HAVE BEEN EXTRACTED WITH TWO DIFFERENT C HEMICAL TREATMENTS AND MEASURED BY LOWRY METH OD (ACIDIC METHOD AND NEUTRALIZATION). ALTHOUGH TH ERE ARE MULTIFARIOUS CHEMICAL PROCEDURES FROM W HICH PROTEIN CAN BE EXTRACTED, HOWEVERTHIS STUDY INVESTIGATES THE EFFECT OF PH ON PROTEIN EXTRACTION FRO M SPIRULINA PLATENSIS USING TWO DIFFERENT METHODS. IN THE FIRST METHOD-NEUTRALIZATION- NAOH IS USED TO ADJUST THE SOLUTION TO PH 12 (SAFI ET AL., 2014). ALTERNATIVELY,ACIDIC METHOD IS CARRIED OU T USING HCL SO THAT THE SOLUTION MADE WITH PH 3.3- 4.5 IS MADE (HERNANDEZ ET AL., 2018). THE RESULTS SH OWED ACIDIC METHOD WITH 13.5 % PROTEIN EXTRACTIONWAS MORE EFFECTIVE IN COMPARISON WITH NEUTRALIZED M ETHOD WITH 10 % PROTEIN EXTRACTION. CHEMICAL TREATME NT WAS A KEY PROCESS THAT SHOWED INCREASES IN PROT EIN CONCENTRATION COMPARED TO THE OTHER TREATMENTS. B ASED ON THIS STUDY, PROTEIN EXTRACTION CAN BE INCRE ASED BY ACIDIC METHOD WITH THE OPTIMAL PH ADJUSTMENT.
