The aim of this study is investigation of the cation type effect on the heterogeneity order parameter (HOP) as a structural property in imidazolium- and cholinium-based ionic liquids using molecular dynamics simulation. The results showed that the elongation of the alkyl chain in imidazolium cation and enhancement of the number of hydroxyl group in cholinium cation have reverse effect on the HOP values of cations and anions.
