Naproxen (NPE) is one of the mostly consumed drugs worldwide and is most abundant in wastewater. In this paper, a novel magnetic polyethyleneimine - graphene oxide (〖Fe〗_3 O_4-PEI-GO) was synthesized, characterized and used as adsorbent for removal of NPE residue in aqueous medium. The corresponded variables influencing the removal efficiency were adjusted. A suitable performance was made under the optimal conditions. The pseudo-first-order kinetic model, pseudo-second-order kinetic model, Weber–Morris intra-particle diffusion model, and Bangham model were used for determination of adsorption mechanisms. Also, the isotherm and thermodynamic properties (i.e. ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS°) were calculated for this process.
