نوجوانان به خاطر خصوصيات نوجواني، بسيار آسيب‌پذيرند. آنها به سرعت جذب راه‌هايي مي‌شوند كه لذت و بي‌خبري در آنها وجود داشته باشند. بنابراين به تعبيري مي‌توان گفت كه زمينه‌هاي انحراف و بزهكاري اجتماعي به شكل بالقوه در نوجوانان وجود دارد و چنانچه محيط براي آنها مساعد نباشد به انحراف كشيده شده و در دام اعتياد گرفتار مي‌شوند. مواد مخدر و روان‌گردان، يكي از مهمترين مشكلات جوامع امروزي است. در گذشته هرگاه اسمي از مواد مخدر مي‌آمد، نهايت چيزي كه به مخيله انسان خطور مي‌كرد حشيش، ترياك و هروئين و از اين قبيل مواد بود. حتي شنيدن نام اين مواد هم، ناخواسته ذهن انسان را به سمت سرانجام اين مسير، كه چيزي جز به خطر افتادن سلامت و از هم پاشيدن زندگي فرد نيست، سوق مي دهد. متأسفانه بر خلاف ساير مواد مخدر كه خريد و فروش و حمل آن ممنوع است، به دليل سهولت دسترسي به مواد استنشاقي جهت كاربرد آن در مصارف آرايشي، بهداشتي و هنري، معمولأ اين مواد جزء نخستين موادي هستند كه نوجوانان به امتحان آنها روي مي‌آورند و ميزان استفاده از آنها در ميان كساني كه در مناطق فقيرنشين زندگي مي‌كنند بيشتر است. در اين مقاله به آسيب شناسي اعتياد به مواد استنشاقي در نوجوانان و بررسي مسائل آن پرداخته شده است.
