This paper presents a three-phase, transverse-flux, and four-sided linear switched reluctance motor (FSLSRM). The motor topology is extensively explained. Moreover, the design considerations and effects of the motor dimensions on the output thrust are considerably investigated. Based on the results of the design evaluation, a three-dimensional (3-D) finite element analysis (FEA) is conducted. Through the FEA simulations, the magnetic flux density vectors and static characteristics of the proposed motor are obtained. In order to examine the dynamic performance of the FSLSRM, a three-phase asymmetric half-bridge converter is employed to drive the motor. The proposed motor performance is studied under both single-pulse control (SPC) and current-chopping control (CCC) strategies. The results indicate that a significant improvement in the output thrust and efficiency is obtained in comparison to the classical transverse-flux LSRMs.
