This paper presents a new structure for a multilevel inverter in which the capacitor and transformer are used to generate higher voltage levels compared to the employed elements. In the proposed structure, only one DC source and transformer are used. In the extended structure, only the number of capacitors and switches is increased as a result the costs are reduced and implementation is simplified. In order to evaluate pros and cons of the proposed structure, this structure is compared with the conventional transformer-based structures, then, its performance is evaluated through simulation in MATLAB by considering a 9-level configuration.
