This paper deals with sensorless field-oriented
control (FOC) of the permanent-magnet synchronous motor
(PMSM). To estimate the position/speed of motor with low
computation time, low steady-state error and low speed-ripple
a simplified model-based method respected to extended Kalman
filter (EKF) is proposed. An approximation is used to estimate
the state variables directly, which results in a significant decrease
in computational burden. This approximation does not affect the
steady-state response, and proportional-integral (PI) controllers
are slightly decelerated to maintain stability in the transient
states. The experimental results confirm that the impact of
this simplification is sufficiently compensated and results in
satisfactory performance of the control system during stable and
dynamic moments.
