Switched reluctance motors (SRM) drives can be a good competitor to conventional induction and permanent magnet motors in variable speed applications because of advantages. However, the torque ripple is the main disadvantage of this kind of motors. So far, many methods have been proposed to reduce the torque ripple in SRM motors. Two of the most effective methods for reducing the torque ripple are indirect and direct methods. The indirect method involves using Torque Sharing Function (TSF) in which torque ripple is minimized by applying the current profile. However, these profiles are calculated offline for constant performance points at a high memory cost in the microcontroller system. In contrast, direct Method takes advantage of a Direct Instantaneous Torque Control (DITC) to control the torque of motor directly. The purpose of this paper is presenting a new-designed converter which is controlled by DITC method and analyzing the simulation results to show the improvement of the torque ripple and power factor.
