the use of membrane structures appears to have continued to increase in recent years they are becoming an increasingly important component of buildings because they are light weight aesthetically pleasing and can span large distances without internal supports a very powerful approach by means of the nonlinear continuum mechanics theory based on FEM is introduced for the analysis of membrane structures a finite element approximation along with a newton-raphson numerical scheme provides a very elegant and accurate way to solve the structural problems.
