CLASSICAL soil mechanics assumes that soils are completely dry or saturated but it is now obvious that mechanical behaviour of soils is a function of their varying water content during the past few decades many constitutive models known as unsaturated soil models have been developed to describe this dependency most of them being complicated their application is restricted to cases where enough experimental data are available to calibrate the model and therefore there has been a need for simpler models . based on the simple and widely used hyperbolic model and two experimental programs a modified hyperbolic model is developed which used hyperbolic model and two experimental programs a modified hyperbolic model is developed which is capable of modelling the mechanical behaviour of unsaturated soils
