In recent years, industrial wireless sensor networks have emerged as a technology with great potential and benefits in a wide range of industries including automation, monitoring ,and process control. In this paper, we give an introduction to the types of industrial sensor networks and the communication protocols that are being used in the industry to implement them. The paper also presents some recent applications of industrial wireless sensor networks in the industry including steel manufacturing and steel bridge maintenance.
