This research revolves studying the mass transfer performance of an L-shaped pulsed sieve-plate extraction column. The back flow model was used to obtain the volumetric overall mass transfer coefficient. Two chemical test systems, including water/acetone/toluene and water/acetone/n-butyl–acetate, were used in this column. Direction of the mass transfer was from the dispersed phase to the continuous phase. The effects of operating parameters including the dispersed and continuous phases flow rates and pulsation intensity on the mass transfer coefficient and the back flow coefficients were studied. Mass transfer is found to be considerably greater in the horizontal section due to the higher interfacial area as well as sharper solute concentration gradient compared with the vertical section. Finally, new theoretical-experimental correlations for the prediction of the volumetric overall mass transfer coefficient and the back flow coefficients in each section of the L-shaped pulsed extraction column are proposed by using dimensional analysis method with Average Absolute Relative Error (AARE) values range of about 4.63-13.52% respectively
