In this work, the volumetric overall mass transfer coefficient based on continuous-phase (Koca) in an L-shaped pulsed sieve-plate extraction column is investigated using the plug flow model. Two chemical test systems, including water/acetone/toluene and water/acetone/n-butyl–acetate, were used in this column. The direction of the mass transfer was from the dispersed phase to the continuous phase. The effects of operating parameters including the pulsation intensity and the dispersed and the continuous phases flow rates on the volumetric overall mass transfer coefficients are investigated. The results showed that the mass transfer performance was strongly dependent on the pulsation intensity. Furthermore, new theoretical-experimental correlations for the prediction of the volumetric overall mass transfer coefficient in each section of the L-shaped pulsed extraction column are proposed by using dimensional analysis method, which are in satisfactory agreement with experimental data. These correlations had Average Absolute Relative Error (AARE) values of about 13.5% and 14.2%, respectively
