In this study, the volumetric overall mass transfer (Koca) has been investigated in a new type of liquid-liquid extractor which has been a pilot plant of a horizontal-vertical pulsed packed extraction column. The mass transfer performance has been evaluated using plug flow model. The experiments have been carried out using two liquid systems of toluene/acetone/water and n-butyl/acetone/water which cover a wide range of interfacial tension. The effect of operational variables and physical properties including the dispersed and continuous phases flow rates, pulsation intensity and interfacial tension have been considered on Koca. It has been found out that the pulsation intensity and the continuous phase flow rate have seriously influenced on Koca, however, the dispersed phase flow rate has a weaker effect. Furthermore, new correlation is proposed to accurately predict Koca. Good agreement between prediction and experiments causes to recommend these correlations for calculation of mass transfer and consequently for final sizing of the column height
