Distillation is one of the most energy-intensive processes for liquid mixture separations in chemical industries.It consume about 3% of world's energy. Process intensification demands to use a divided wall column (DWC) to separate a3 to 4 component mixture to high purity products. Compared to conventional column DWC consumes 25%-30% less energy but the designs of DWC trays are not well reported. In this paper, the effect of holes diameter in sieve trays in an experimental DWC using a binary system Air-Water was investigated. Also, an operating characteristic, the dry pressure drop for two sieve trays was acquired. Compared to conventional columns, divided wall columns reduce the capital and operational costs, significantly. Many parameters that affect the design of these columns are such as; hole diameter, outlet weir height, and bubbling area. The results showed that the liquid distribution and operational window in a sieve tray with diameter of 0.0127m were improved and also satisfactory operation was increased in comparison with the sieve tray diameter of 0.005m. But the tray with a 0.005m diameter is suitable for high gas velocity rate. Experimentation on the mass transfer efficiency of DWC trays are waiting to be reported
