In this paper, the exergy analysis of the convection and steam generation sections in cracking furnaces of liquid and gaseous olefin plants has been investigated based on the design data. As a case study, a petrochemical company in south of Iran has been considered that include both of the liquid feed (naphtha) and gas feed (ethane) furnaces. The results indicated that the most exergy destruction for convection section of gas and liquid feed furnaces occurs in FPH and HTC- banks, respectively. Furthermore, it was deduced that the convection section of liquid feed furnace has higher exergy destruction than gas feed furnace and the overall exergy efficiency of convection section for gas and liquid furnaces are 65.1% and 60.13%, respectively. It was also revealed that the convection sections of gas and liquid feed furnaces destroy 2.112 and 2.197 MJ exergy per unit mass (1 kg) of produced light olefins (ethylene, propylene).
