Removal of uranium (VI) from dilute aqueous solutions using emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) system have been studied. The presented study has emphasized on membrane stability during the process for reaching the minimum emulsion swelling and emulsion breakage values. The emulsion prepared in this system was containing 2-Thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTA) as a carrier, kerosene as an organic diluent, Sorbitan monooleate (Span 80) as emulsifier and HCl as stripping solution. Polyisobutylene (PIB) was added to the membrane phase as a polymeric modifier to improve the membrane phase stability by increasing the membrane phase viscosity. Several parameters affecting the emulsion stability such as Span 80 and PIB concentrations, agitation speed and internal phase to organic phase volume ratio were investigated to achieve the optimum conditions for this process. The results showed that the most stable emulsion in this system underwent 0% of swelling and also the measured value of breakage was attained to be 0.56%.
