In this study, modification of polyurethane (PU) membranes were done, using nanoparticles of chitosan (NCS) and TiO2 to prepare a nonocomposite suitable to be used as a wound dressing material. New wound dressings were prepared using dry/wet phase inversion method. Here, effect of nano-chitosan (NCS) on main properties of a wound dressing was examined. Dimethylformamide (DMF) was used as solvent while dionized water acts as nonsolvent in coagulation bath. Nanocomposites were characterized by water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), swelling of the membranes for two different time intervals of one and 24 hours, and antibacterial characteristic of dressings were investigated. Obtained results, revealed that addition of nano-chitosan (NCS) could significantly improve the swelling of membranes as well as adjusting dressings’ water vapor transmission rate in comparison with a dressing of neat polyurethane. In addition, results of antibacterial test showed that new dressings show a good antibacterial activity against gram negative bacteria. Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
