Corn cob as an important source of hemicellulose considered as an interesting agriculture residue in the pulp and paper industry was used as the source of carbon and energy for Trichoderma reesei growth in the present study and ability of the fungal cells in synthesis of xylanase was evaluated. The enzyme is responsible for the catalytic hydrolysis of the xylan fraction of corn cob. The growth of the fungus was characterized by its capacity in the sporlation process and the inoculum size was found to play a key role. An increase of 48.2% in maximum xylanase production was observed after increasing the inoculum’s size At three different initial spore concentration (0.1, 0.2 and 2 * 107 spore/ml), which indicates that the amount of inocula could be an important factor in xylanse production. The outcome also indicated that it is feasible to apply corn cob as a cheap carbon source to induce xylanase production.
