Free convection heat transfer on the surface of a smooth horizontal cylinder was investigated at
different heat flux for a binary mixture of Acetone/Isopropyl alcohol (Act/IPA) at atmospheric
pressure and saturation temperature. The surface was made of Bronze and bubble diameters at
departure were measured during saturated pool boiling utilizing the monochrome movies. The
experiments were conducted in a glass container for three levels of IPA volume fractions. Wall
temperature was measured using three thermocouples and the average value was reported.
Experimental results showed that bubble detachment diameter increases with heat flux and IPA
volume fraction. Obtained results including bubble diameter were compared with available
models of bubble nucleation in literature. Heat flux and heat transfer coefficient were also
reported.
