Water/oil ratio (WOR) is an essential factor in the economy of oil and gas production. Unwanted water production from oil reservoirs is a serious problem for oil and gas producers. Many producers try to control excess water production by mechanical and chemical approaches. Preformed particle gel (PPG) treatment is an economic approach to overcome this crucial problem. Knowing how PPGs can propagate throughout fractures can help producers to be successful in PPG treatment process. To the best of our knowledge, there is not any report in the literature that studied PPG propagation throughout fractures under high pressures and temperatures. In this study, we synthesized PPG samples composed of acrylamide (AAm) and acryl acid (AA) based on the optimum condition, swelled them in BaCl2 sat solution (200000 ppm), and examined their propagation behaviors into a homemade fracture like device at 230 bar and 100 °C. Results showed that PPGs propagate throughout fractures as a polynomial model.
