Determinations of hydrodynamic and mass transfer parameters were carried out inside the airlift reactor with net draft tube (ALR-NDT) containing air-water system. For comparative purposes, data in the bubble column and airlift reactors was also obtained. The effect of air flow rate (QG) on gas holdup (εG), mixing time (tM), and volumetric mass transfer coefficient (kLa) were determined. The εG and kLa values in the ALR-NDT were obtained higher than the corresponding values in the airlift reactor over the entire range of QG studied (0.25-2 vvm). The decrease in tM was also considerable in the ALR-NDT indicated the improving role of the NDT in the column reactor by establishing the cross flow. The results showed that the presence of the NDT by forming small bubbles extended the homogeneous flow regime to higher air flow rates. The empirical correlations relating εG and kLa to superficial gas velocity (usg) were also presented
