In this study, cellulose acetate membranes were prepared by phase inversion immersion precipitation method. Various solutions with constant concentration of polymer (17.5%) were formulated. Gelatin as an additive in three levels was used to change the hydrophilicity and consequently water flux of the membranes. In this research, acetic acid was applied as a common solvent for the polymer and its additive. Also, distilled water with temperature of 24˚C was utilized as nonsolvent. These made the membrane completely environmentally friendly. Solutions were cast on a glass plate by a film applicator with thickness of 200 μm. Finally, performance of membranes were evaluated by contact angle and permeation tests. The permeability of the samples was measured for 2 hours under the conditions of protein separation from the aqueous solution and the effect of gelatin as a hydrophilic additive was investigated. The results indicate that water flux and hydrophilicity of the samples rise with increasing in dosage of gelatin.
