In this work, performance of a fixed-bed column (height: 1m, diameter: 0.25m) containing natural zeolite (clinoptilolite) was investigated for removal of non-aromatic impurities from Toluene. The zeolitic media effectively removed impurity with nominal inlet concentration of 200g/m3. Freundlich isotherm model was applied to experimental equilibrium adsorption data at 1atm and 298K with correlation coefficient R2: 0.998. Linear driving force (LDF) model was used to predict the breakthrough curve and the model’s parameters were determined from the experimental data. The effects of operating conditions such as flow rate and initial impurity concentration on the breakthrough characteristics were investigated. It was found that increasing the flow rate the breakthrough occurs faster and the removal efficiency decreases. An increase in initial impurity concentration resulted in a decrease in breakthrough time and a sharper breakthrough curve.
