Simulation of unit 107 of phase 12, a commercial Pressure-Temperature Swing Adsorption (PTSA) process was performed in a one layer five-bed adsorption system during five sequential steps of cyclic operation to remove mercaptan impurities from natural gas. The feed is a mixture of methane, ethane, heavy hydrocarbons (C3+) , carbon dioxide and mercaptan impurities.
The process is working in the cyclic operational mode consisting adsorption step, depressurization, heating , cooling and pressurization step to continuously reduce the mercaptan content from 150 to less than 5 ppmv . The bed consists of one layer of molecular sieve 13X to specifically remove mercaptan impurity from natural gas. The equilibrium adsorption conditions were evaluated by extended langmuir isotherms for each component that depends on Temperature, peressure and mole fraction of components in the mixture. In this simulation by removing mercaptan impurities to lower than 5 ppm the sweet gas was sent to export unit.
