This paper addresses the application of micro CHP (combined heat and power) engines in buildings using natural gas as the fuel alongside the methods of optimizing them by evaluating the influence of various operation parameters on the performance of the engine. The micro CHP were developed in Aspen HYSYS V9. The effect of natural gas composition as fuel feed stocks were investigated. Some operating parameters such as mass flow, temperature, pressure of the fuel and the temperature and pressure of the inlet air were examined in performance of the trigeneration plants. The design variability revealed that the micro CHP engine performance drastically increases with fuels that have higher methane mole fraction. As well as that from 0 to 40 degree centigrade inlet air temperature increases the turbine power almost 90%. The different mass flow of the fuel also revealed that the system performed well under residential and small commercial circumstances.
