In this article, a dynamical model for production of acetic acid in a bioreactor has been used to
design a control scheme which keeps the production rate of acid at its maximum level in spite of
variations of the substrate concentration. To achieve this goal, an adaptive PI controller has been
utilized which manipulates the dilution rate. It is assumed that variation of the feed concentration
is measured. Using this measurement and the bioreactor model, the maximum production rate is
calculated and used as a set point for the control system. It has been shown that the closed loop
system is stable and effectiveness of the control scheme has been demonstrated via simulation.
