In this paper, an adaptive PID control scheme is proposed for multi-input and multi-output (MIMO) nonlinear systems in the general affine form. In this work, the adaptive PID controller proposed in the literature [1] for the affine nonlinear system in the normal form extended in to the general form. The mathematical model of the system is not required for the controller design. The stability of the closed loop system has been established and it has been shown that all signals remain bounded and the tracking error converges to the neighborhood of the origin. To evaluate the performance of the designed controller, it has been utilized for controlling the level of interconnected tanks. The simulation results indicate that the designed controller has an acceptable performance for affine nonlinear systems.
