In this study, nanocomposite membranes were synthesized by the loading of carboxylic functionalized ZrO2 nanoparticles in within the polysulfone membrane matrix. Comparison of the structure and surface morphology of raw membranes with nanocomposite membranes was performed by SEM and AFM analyses. Also, the comparison of filtration performance of raw and synthetic nanocomposite membranes with flux measurement and calculation of total filtration resistance value were investigated. The results of the SEM images indicated that the porosity decreased with the addition of nanoparticles to the membrane substrate. Also, with the results of AFM analysis, it was found that adding nanoparticles to the membrane bed increased the roughness of the surface of the synthetic membranes. The filtration tests also showed that the increase of 2.68 %wt the nanoparticle in the membrane matrix enhanced pure water flux and decrease the total filtration resistance.
