The demand for effective and inexpensive adsorbents is to increase in response to the widespread recognition of the deleterious health effects of arsenic exposure through drinking water. An adsorbent, clinoptilolite-iron oxide nano-composite was prepared and employed for the adsorption and removal of arsenic. Natural zeolite was modified with nano iron oxide by precipitation method and then the modified nano-composite was encapsulated into granules using ionic gelation method. Both powder and granule forms were tested in a batch system. Fe-treated zeolite powder and granules in comparison with natural zeolite removed higher percentage of arsenic. Adsorption was not significantly affected by granulation.
