The purpose of this study is synthesis of spinel structured lithium manganese oxide adsorbents with, high adsorption capacity and structural stability for removal of lithium ion from aqueous solutions. The raw materials used in this research have been selected based on their performance in previous studies. Also, due to the significant effect of cobalt ions in previous studies, this transition metal was selected as a structural stabilizer. The effects of important factors of calcination temperature, lithium to manganese molar ratio, and cobalt to manganese molar ratio were investigated in preparation of adsorbent by hydrothermal method. Maximum adsorption capacity and highest stability was obtained at optimum synthesis conditions of molar ratio of lithium to manganese: 1.5, molar ratio of cobalt to manganese: 0.05, and calcination temperature of 545.5 °C. At optimum conditions, adsorption capacity was 55.65 mg/g which decreased 4.20% after two cycles of adsorption. Also, the adsorbent structure before adsorption and after two cycles of adsoption and desorption was investigated by XRD analysis and there was no significant change.
