Drugs have widely been found in wastewater and ecosystem for the past two decades. Drugs can be poisonous for biological treatment systems. In this research, two drugs, diclofenac and ibuprofen, were studied in order to investigate whether contamination of wastewater with these drugs affects COD removal% of the wastewater, entering a moving bed bioreactor (MBBR). To answer this question, four different initial concentrations of each drug were added to an 8.5-liter MBBR, and COD removals of each drug’s concentration in COD=500 and 1000 mg/l were measured. Hydraulic retention times were 5 and 10 hrs. The results demonstrate that the COD removals were not considerably affected even in high concentration of 10 ppm of both drugs. This was observed for both retention times of 5 and 10 hours. In low COD, in the worst case, the removal decreased by 6.3%. In high COD, in the worst case, the removal declined by 8.4%
