This work reports the surface modification of polyurethane gas separation membrane in order to increase gas transport properties. Polyurethane was sunthesized by two step bulk polymerization. PU membrane then was successfully modified by ethylenediamine (ED) as an CO2 adsorbent group. The surface modified PU was characterized by contact angle and ATR-FTIR analyses. The obtained results indicated the successful grafting of ED on membrane surface and more hydrophilicity of it. The performance of surface modified membranes showed higher CO2/N2 selectivity and CO2 permeability. Although many studies have investigated to improve transport properties of polyurethane membranes, but the surface modification of polyurethane membrane is unprecedeted.
