Low energy consumption and high products quality are always the main objectives in all manufacturing industries, especially in refineries and petrochemical plants. Thus, in the present work, a number of towers existing in Boualisina nathphtha reforming unit in Mahshahr were considered to apply the real time optimization technology (RTO) for economic improvement and reduction of energy consumption. In the first part of this study, the distillation towers were simulated and validated against the plant data. In the second part, in order to optimize the process using multi-objective approach, the simulated unit is optimized based on two different decision variables using RTO technology. The results offered various optimal solutions through Pareto plots resulted from multi-objective optimizations. These results demonstrate that the about 4.5 MW saving in energy consumption without any considerable change in products quality can be obtained.
