چكيده لاتين :
Lavender, is a valuable medicinal plant, in addition to its therapeutic applications, has a noble odour
and is of interest to the cosmetics industry. These characters are due to the important secondary
metabolites such as monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. Given that these compounds are produced
through relatively long and complex biosynthetic pathways, therefore it is required to study the key
genes which involved in biosynthesis in order to control their regulation and enhance production. In
this study, the expression of three key genes of monoterpene biosynthetic pathway under UV-B
radiation was studied. Phenchol synthase (FENS), borneol synthase (BRS) and trans-alphabergamoten
synthase (TABS) were analysed as the key genes for monoterpene biosynthesis under UVB
treatment before and after flowering. Results showed that these genes exhibited a significant
increase in transcript expression level. Since the enhanced expression level of genes in the
biosynthetic pathway is highly associated with an increase in the secondary metabolites in plants,
therefore a higher increase in the production of valuable monoterpene compounds is probably
expected under UV-B stress. These results can be exploited in future studies to improve monoterpene
production.
