Polyoxymethylene (POM) as a semi-crystalline thermoplastic is widely used in today’s industry, specially as the main polymer forming a major fraction of the internal parts of the diaphragm gas meters, including its gears. Although POM shows exceptional properties, it has some limitations in practice as gears. Low impact strength and failure are the main problems of these gears. To tackle these shortcomings a nano-clay-POM nono-composite is produced in this study and the resistance of hardness, thermal behavior i.e. melting point and temperature of degradation in the presence of nanoparticles were investigated. The results revealed that this nano-composite shows improved hardness, and decreased degradation temperature, however did not significantly affect the melting temperature.
